Discovered by E. E. Barnard, NGC 281 is an emission nebula 9,500 ly distant in the Perseus arm of the galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia. The nebula
is excited  by young OB stars including the cluster HD5005, in the center of the image. HD 5005 is similar in nature and appearance to  the Trapzium in
M42.
