| Visit to Lick Observatory In the summer of 2007 the Saratoga Astrophotography Association (represented by the Peratas and the Sullivans) visited the Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton near San Jose, CA. Lick Observatory is the first mountain top observatory in the US. It is the site of the Great Lick Refractor, largest telescope in the world (in 1885) which EE Barnard used to discover the last moon discovered vsually and it is the site of the speculum reflector with which the first objects too faint to be detect visually were detected photographically. Currently it is used by U.C. Santa Cruz for astronomical research including the search for exoplanets. |
