| band filter, an HBeta filter with a relatively broad (for HBeta) passband of 12 nm. This has less atmospheric dispersion than standard blue but less light throughput. Note the greater gain (creating greater noise) and longer exposure time needed for the HBeta as compared to the Blue filter On Mars (unlike Jupiter) on can take one's time however and as you can see below the HBeta does give more detail. Also note that the Luminance filter, although it allows a very short exposure time, has much atmospheric disperion. The IR filter (> 685 nm) gives better spatial resolution. IR data, not data from the Lum filter, was used for Luminance in the above image. |
